Expressing Gratitude Through Giving

JimThere are many ways to support Goshen Health’s mission of improving the health of our communities.

For people like Jim, a deep sense of gratitude motivates them to give the precious gift of time. Here’s how Jim explains why he joyfully serves others.

“My wife, Cheryl, died in 2014, three days after our 48th anniversary. During her illness, she was hospitalized in Goshen several times, and she spent the last six months of her life in hospice care in our home.

The care she received in the hospital was deeply compassionate, and the hospice nurses, aides, social worker, chaplain and volunteers literally saved my sanity during the most difficult time of my life.”

“Being a hospice volunteer has given me the chance to repay at least a portion of the kindness and compassion we received. Being able to bless other hospice patients and their families like hospice blessed us is the best way I can think of to honor Cheryl’s memory.”

Jim is just one of the many wonderful volunteers who offer the gift of companionship and comfort to others. The patients and their families will never forget Jim’s kindness. Another way to leave a legacy of kindness in honor of yourself or a loved one is to include Goshen Health Foundation in your estate plans.
